Compatibility
Ting is designed to be simple and versatile, making it compatible with a wide range of home setups.
To install Ting, the power delivered to the home or unit must be single-phase or split-phase, which is typical of nearly all U.S. homes. You must have your own utility meter, and you pay your own electric utility bill. While the majority of homes require only one Ting, homes with multiple electric breaker panels require one Ting per panel.
Ting is fully compatible with all types of electrical wiring, including aluminum, as well as solar power systems and home battery backup systems. The Ting sensor and service are designed for use only in the United States. Ting is not currently suitable for RVs, 3-phase commercial power configurations, or commercial buildings.
Activating the Ting sensor and utilizing the app simply require:
A smartphone
An open 3-prong outlet
Wi-Fi

We’re experts so you don’t have to be.
If Ting detects an electrical fire hazard, the Ting Fire Safety Team—the world’s foremost experts in electrical safety—will lead you through every step of hazard mitigation. You’re even covered for up to $1,000 of labor costs to repair a Ting-detected hazard if it’s needed.
Private and Non-Intrusive Tech
No audio. No video. No activity tracking. Ting only measures voltage, because that’s where hidden electrical dangers begin.
No Cameras
Ting doesn’t see into your home – just into your wiring.
No Microphones
Ting does not have any microphones or other sensors that collect information about you.
No Energy Usage Tracking
Ting is not designed to measure power or energy consumption in the home. The Ting sensor measures voltage to monitor your electrical network for electrical fire hazards.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many Ting sensors does my home need?
Most homes require just one Ting sensor for whole-home monitoring from a single outlet. However, there are circumstances where more than one Ting may be required. If your home has more than one main electric breaker panel (i.e., has its own separate feed from the electric meter or utility) one Ting is required for each main electric breaker panel.
If you are unsure if your home requires more than one Ting sensor, please don’t hesitate to contact us at help@whiskerlabs.com.
Can I use the Ting sensor without the service?
No. Ting is a smart home service with an intelligent plug-in sensor at its core. The Ting app is required for installation of the Ting sensor and keeps you in the know after you’ve activated your Ting service. Most importantly, if a fire hazard is identified, the service includes access to the Ting Fire Safety team who will lead you through every step to resolve the hazard and keep you safe. The Ting service also includes a $1,000 Ting Credit to support fire hazard remediation.
What does the $1,000 hazard repair credit cover?
The $1,000 credit can only be applied towards labor required for the mitigation of an electrical fire hazard identified by Ting when you are proactively notified by the Ting service of a potential hazard, and the Ting Fire Safety team works with you to coordinate professional remediation. This credit cannot be used for general electrical work that you would like to have completed in your home. Please click here for detailed terms and conditions.
What does Ting include?
Ting is not just a device – it is a service that includes the following:
Your Ting Sensor, which is a fully DIY install (only takes 2 minutes to install). The Ting Sensor mobile app (required to install your Sensor and stay informed) A service subscription to our 24×7 home electrical system monitoring, which includes notifications about the health of your home and your utility power for the term of the Service, and engagement by our Ting Operations team should a hazard be detected. A $1,000-lifetime credit can be applied toward labor costs should a Ting-coordinated visit by a licensed electrician be required to identify and repair an electrical fire hazard detected by Ting. Any such visit requires your approval first and is only recommended by Whisker Labs when Ting has detected a fire hazard. Free lifetime sensor replacement warranty*.
*We proudly have a hassle-free, full lifetime replacement guarantee should it ever fail or need to be replaced.
Does Ting prevent all electrical fires?
Ting prevents most electrical fires — but not all.
Ting is designed to detect early signs of electrical hazards before they become fires. But like all safety tools, it has limits. Ting can’t prevent sudden, catastrophic events like lightning strikes or power surges that cause instant damage. While it’s proven to prevent 4 out of 5 electrical fires, always trust your senses. If you see, hear, or smell something that concerns you, reach out to us right away.
**For the majority of homes, one Ting is sufficient. However, for homes that have more than one main electric breaker panel (i.e., has its own separate feed from the electric meter or utility) one Ting is required for each main electric breaker panel. If homes have sub-panels that are located within a single physical structure and connected to a single main electric breaker panel, one Ting is enough. If a sub-panel is installed in a detached or remote building a separate Ting will be required for that building (i.e. barn, shed, detached garage).
