You’re probably familiar with the Ting sensor plugged into one of your outlets, quietly detecting power outages, frozen pipe risk, and electrical fire hazards throughout your home. But did you know there’s a whole team of fire safety experts ready to help you if a problem is detected?

Your Ting sensor includes a professional fire prevention service backed by our Fire Safety Team of more than 70 highly trained professionals – the world’s leading experts in electrical fire safety. Together, we’ve helped homeowners identify and resolve more than 33,000 electrical fire hazards, with 30 more each day.

If Ting detects a fire hazard, our Fire Safety Team engineers step in remotely to investigate, help pinpoint the source, and guide you through the steps to resolve it before it can cause a fire.

You’re never left to deal with a Ting alert and fire hazard on your own.

Here’s a closer look at the people that make preventing electrical fires possible.

1. The Ting Fire Safety Team includes electricians, engineers, and physicists

The Ting Fire Safety Team brings together a wide mix of expertise. From master electricians with more than 10 years of experience to engineers, physicists, HVAC technicians, military veterans, and part-time firefighters, our team brings different perspectives to our shared mission of helping prevent electrical fires.

“The Fire Safety Team is one of the most unique teams I have ever worked with. What makes it special is how all those different backgrounds come together.” – Ray C., Director of Fire Safety Operations.

That variety makes a difference when investigating complex hazards. If a case needs extra attention, your case manager can tap into into a wide range of expertise. Behind every case is a team working toward the same goal.

2. We train in a mock home before helping yours

New Fire Safety Team members undergo several weeks of intensive training, followed by months of hands-on experience and coaching. They develop a deep understanding of electrical systems, the warning signs of dangerous arcing, and how to interpret the electrical signals Ting detects.

A key part of that training takes place in our Ting Electrical Wet Lab, a simulated home environment equipped with electrical wiring and faulty devices. Here, team members investigate realistic electrical hazards, practice identifying their sources, and refine their troubleshooting skills.

It’s rigorous preparation so we can help homeowners confidently navigate a complex situation.

“The team was so impressive with their knowledge. There was arcing detected and the system identified just where it was coming from. The team was able to guide me in the house to the problem which was an old loose socket in combination with a defective night light.”

3. The investigation starts before your phone rings

When a Ting sensor detects electrical signals that may indicate a hazard, our team reviews the findings before reaching out. They examine how the signals from the sensor have changed, whether a potential hazard may be getting worse, and whether the source could be inside or outside the home. A dedicated case manager then takes a closer look and develops an investigation plan.

That’s the value of early detection: Ting is designed to identify electrical hazards before they can start a fire, creating an opportunity to take preventive action. By the time you hear from the Fire Safety Team, we’ve already been working hard to help keep you safe.

4. They help you get from detection to resolution

Your Fire Safety Engineer works with you remotely, reviewing electrical signals in real-time while guiding you through troubleshooting steps over the phone. Your observations are an important part of that process, too.

If an on-site repair is needed, we help coordinate with a licensed electrician, or homeowners can choose their own. The team then works with the electrician to help locate the hazard and assists with applying the available $1,000 Ting hazard repair credit toward qualifying labor costs.

You’re supported throughout the whole process.

“The Fire Safety Team was absolutely amazing! We narrowed the hazard down to the circuit and then went through each outlet and light to find exactly where the arcing was. I was so impressed. Once we found the light it was coming from, they offered to have a licensed electrician come out with the $1000 credit. I couldn’t be more happy with this service.”

5. Our work doesn’t stop when the repair is done

Even after an electrician completes a repair, the Fire Safety Team stays involved. For another 24 to 48 hours, we review electrical signals to verify that the hazardous arcing signals have resolved and remain in touch if needed.

It’s an important final step that reflects our commitment to seeing each case through.
