October is National Fire Prevention Month, and electrical fire prevention with Ting depends on our community of Tingers who trust us to help protect their families and homes. To celebrate our partners in fire prevention – YOU – we’re sharing some of the impactful customer stories from this summer!
Fire Prevention Month aims to raise fire safety awareness and help protect homes and families, which is precisely why Ting was created. Electrical fires can be the most devastating fires, causing more property damage than any other type of fire. Quietly developing at any time and in any home, an electrical fire impacts a family every 10 minutes in the U.S.
Alongside customers like you, we’re working toward changing that.
To celebrate Fire Prevention Month, we’re spotlighting a few of our incredible Ting customers who embody the future of fire safety for their communities. After a fire hazard was detected in their homes by Ting, their quick response and dedication helped to keep their families safe.

Power Problems in New York
September 2024
Carrie & her family in Rocky Point, NY
Source of the hazard: loose neutral connection
Repairs made: neutral repaired by utility
“On the ninth day of usage, Ting reported a potential fire hazard. We called Ting and they told us that we might have a loose neutral wire coming from the transformer on the pole outside and to call our power company. We called our power company and they came the next morning to check our wires. Sure enough, we had an open neutral wire that needed to be repaired. We are so grateful to Ting. They monitored our home closely after we told them the results of the power company’s visit and repair. After 48 hours of closely monitoring our electric, they resolved the hazard. We had guidance, peace of mind, and will never live in a home without Ting again.”
Ting Tip: Pay attention to flickering lights – it could mean you have a problem in your utility equipment.
An Arcing Outlet in Indiana
September 2024
Tammy L. in Komono, IN
Source of the hazard: corroded and water-damaged outlet
Repairs made: outlet replacement
“I got a notification from the Ting app, then immediately a text message from Ting, then a call from Ting within another minute. The Fire Safety Engineer walked me through the entire process and helped us to figure out where the problem was in an outlet. We were able to change out the outlet and that resolved the issue. It turned out that our old cat had peed into the outlet and then again on the wall, and it dribbled down into the outlet. We are very grateful that our insurance provided us with the Ting sensor. Otherwise, we would not have known that the outlet was arcing and it probably would’ve started a fire. I would recommend Ting to any homeowner for peace of mind.”
Ting Tip: Put socket covers on unused outlets (especially near pet supplies such as litter boxes and water bowls) to help prevent water infiltration.
Flickering Lights in Maryland
September 2024
Tim M. in Forest Hill, MD
Source of the hazard: damaged underground line
Repairs made: utility dug up and repaired line
“Our lights had been flickering for some time and certain appliances seemed to never work quite as well as they should have. Ting notified me one morning that there was a fire hazard emanating from my utility in the form of a loose or damaged neutral wire somewhere between the road and my service panel. Not only did the app notify me, but I got a text and an email with clear, helpful instructions on what to do next and who I could call at Ting if I had any questions or issues. I called my utility company and they sent someone out that day, who immediately confirmed the Ting sensor was right. The repairs were fully covered by my utility as the issue was outside my house in their lines, and since the issue has been resolved our lights haven’t flickered and our appliances seem to work properly now. The Ting sensor and Ting Fire Safety team helped me and my family avoid a potentially disastrous fire and now, with the continuous monitoring, to feel confident any future issues will be caught immediately.”
Ting Tip: In addition to flickering lights, appliances acting strangely (particularly your microwave and refrigerator) can be another sign of a utility equipment issue.
A Melted Main Breaker in Michigan
August 2024
Elena B. & her family in Lansing, MI
Source of the hazard: electrical panel
Repairs made: panel replacement
“Ting detected a fire hazard in our home and we learned that our main breaker was actively melting into the bus which was causing arcing and drops to 70v throughout our home. The Ting Fire Safety Team not only identified the issue but also worked with a local electrician to get a service out to us immediately. We are so thankful to Ting for keeping our home and our lives (and pets lives) safe!”
Ting Tip: Consider having your electrician check your electrical panel every few years to ensure it is properly maintained.
A Searing Ceiling Fan in South Carolina
July 2024
Amy W. in Goose Creek, SC
Source of the hazard: bedroom ceiling fan
Repairs made: ceiling fan replaced
“I have an older home built in 1970, so I thought it would be a good idea to use Ting and it paid off. Ting found electrical arcing in the ceiling fan of my bedroom which could have been a potential fire. Some of the wires were melted. So yes I believe in Ting!!!”
Ting Tip: If you think the light fixtures in your home may be outdated, have your electrician inspect and replace them.
